Maria Blaisse & Bin Xu haven’t been able to work as big as they will do at DordtYart. Their years of (material) research will be used for the construction of a large, new piece of bamboo.
Maria Blaisse has been working with bamboo for years and knows the material through and through. The basis of her work is continuous research into the possibilities of the material. Largely from one form, the torus. This process provides a large potential of application possibilities. Such as for performances, fashion, architecture and products. Essential in her work are simplicity, clarity, beauty, sustainability and the optimal use of the material and its qualities.
Bin Xu is a designer and in his work seeks the harmony between simplicity and meaningful functionality. He is interested in science, physics and mathematics and draws his inspiration from observations of nature, people and changes. In the hall you will find some of his items that you can purchase and become part of your environment. Works that give a certain rest and concentration.
Maria and Bin have been working together for a number of years. In the hall they are working on a space of bamboo that you can enter yourself. With its 12 x 3 x 6 meters, this work will invite the visitor to enter the space and experience the movement and thus energy of the construction itself.
This former marine plant in the Stadswerven, Dordrecht hosts 18 artists during this summer.
The exhibition Verschijnen / verdwijnen lasted until July 28th, 2019.
